Press Release, Edison, NJ – JFK Medical Center is proud to announce the appointment of Alexander D. Abkin, M.D., FACS, as Medical Director of JFK for Life, a lifestyle and surgical weight loss program.
Dr. Abkin is a board-certified general surgeon and nationally recognized bariatric surgeon who has performed more than 6,000 bariatric procedures in the past ten years. He performs several types of bariatric surgery procedures, including Gastric Bypass Surgery, Lap Band Surgery, Realize Band Surgery, Sleeve Gastrectomy, ROSE Procedure, Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS), and Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG).

Dr. Abkin received his medical training at First Leningrad Medical University in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he received his M.D. in 1986. He completed his residency at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ. He is co-director of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeons of Morris in Florham Park, a group recognized as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons and the Surgical Review Corporation of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. New Jersey Monthly magazine named Dr. Abkin one of New Jersey’s “Top Doctors” for the past four years (2007-2010). He was the first surgeon in New Jersey to implement the REALIZE™ Band procedure.
